Very soon, it will be time once again for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) to re-kindle its ever-growing fan base, and enthusiastically return its teams to their welcoming arenas all over the country, as the Women take over the pilot’s seat to conduct their 26th consecutive season of professional basketball.

2022 To Feature Historic 36-game Regular Season Schedule
LOS ANGELES (Dec. 9, 2021) – The three-time WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks are excited to announce their 2022 regular season schedule. Entering his fourth season, General Manager and Head Coach Derek Fisher and the Sparks will open the season on a four-game road trip, tipping off against the reigning champion Chicago Sky on Friday, May 6th at 5 pm | PT. The team is led by MVP, Champion, and WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike.
The WNBA will play a longer 36-game regular season and launch a new playoff format abolishing single-elimination rounds. The top eight teams will face off in a bracket consisting of a best-of-three First Round and best-of-five Semifinals and Finals.
The Sparks are excited to return to their long-time home Staples Center, which will become Crypto.com Arena on Dec. 25, 2021. The team will battle the rival Minnesota Lynx in their Home Opener on Tuesday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m.
This season, the Sparks play eight teams three times apiece with four games slated against the 2021 runner-up Phoenix Mercury, the Dallas Wings, and the Las Vegas Aces. The first home game and first road game against each conference opponent counts towards the 2nd Annual Commissioners Cup. The first multi-game home-stand hosts the Washington Mystics (6/21) and the Chicago Sky (6/23).
Los Angeles then hosts a seven-game homestand, the longest of the season, featuring visits from the 2021 Rookie of the Year and UCLA star Michaela Onyenwere, Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty (7/3), Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins-Smith and the Mercury (7/4), Breanna Stewart and the four-time champion Seattle Storm (7/7), Elena Delle Donne and the Mystics (7/12), Candace Parker and the Sky (7/14), Teaira McCowan and the Indiana Fever (7/19), and Chennedy Carter and the Atlanta Dream (7/21).
The Sparks end the season with a three-game homestand including a pair of games against 2021 MVP Jonquel Jones and the Connecticut Sun in August (8/9, 8/11) before the season finale against Arike Ogunbowale and the Dallas Wings (8/14). The Sparks will look to earn their league-leading 21st playoff appearance.
