(East Los Angeles, CA) [From The Editor’s Desk]: The Angel City Football Club (ACFC) came away with the overall #1 pick, a very young and prominent high school Senior student-athlete, in the person of Alyssa Thompson, during the National Womens’ Soccer League (NWSL) recent draft of 1/12.

This is great news for the Team’s ownership, fan-base, and of course the team itself, as Thompson, already a “called-up,” utilized and experienced member of the U.S. Womens National Soccer Team (USWNT) and a Stanford University recruit, has decided to go pro instead of pursuing her collegiate career. Alyssa also has a dynamic and soccer talented younger sister, Giselle who is playing for the Wolverines of Harvard-Westlake High School, located in Studio City, CA. And many recruiters, college and pro, may be setting their sights on her as well.

On deciding to go Pro….

“This was the hardest decision that I’ve ever had to make, but in the end, I decided that it was the best for me. I worked really hard to get to the place that I am right now. Training with the full team and being in that environment [last preseason], I thought, ‘Wow, I can do this.’ And being able to play against the best in the world every single day—I couldn’t pass that up right now.”
On getting selected by Angel City…
“Being able to play in front of my family and friends is something that’s really important to me. I’m walking into an amazing organization where the fans are, I think, the best in the NWSL. They show up at every game and are just amazing. I know that this organization will make me a better player and continue to develop my skills.” # # #
