<L.A. City Schools>
Eastern League:
Garfield “Bulldogs” – Coming back off their BYE Week. Should have a decent match-up with South East on Friday. Garfield is always tough after its one week of rest and restoration. Look for the offense to catch fire quickly. Steady as she goes for the Bulldawgs.
South Gate “Rams” – Big and important Friday Night Lights bout all set to take place in Boyle Heights as the Rams travel into Roosevelt for this titanic Eastern League contest. A win puts South Gate another step closer to the playoffs. A loss for the Riders could jeopardize their playoff chances.
Roosevelt “Rough Riders” – Much is literally “riding” on this key Eastern League match-up. The Rough Riders must protect their house against their enemy at all costs to preserve the consideration of the playoff selection committee. Their league record shows more wins than losses and they must keep it that for the rest of the season.
Northern League:
Lincoln “Tigers” – Coach Carrillo has been here before and knows that the team’s need to “win-out” and keep making a strong impression on the playoff committee is critical. The rest during Bye week should help the Tigers get back into winning mode.
Wilson “Mighty Mules” – Winning records are good to have at this time of the season. The playoff gods are looking for solid and competitive teams to make their playoff brackets. The Mules were impressive in their last outing and need to bring that momentum back quickly on Friday.
Torres “Toros” – It’s all about the team and school pride at this point of the season. Let’s hope that the Toros can come up with a new focus and a much improved nucleus of players for the 2016 season. It’s now time for the underclassmen to step up and accept their new leadership roles.
<CIF Southern Section>
Bishop Amat “Lancers” – The “Big Blue & Gold Crew” continues to roll in the victories. They took care of their business easily last week against Alemany, one of the league’s top ranked teams. They are truly on a mission to reach the playoffs and start the second season with a flourish. Still highly ranked and very volatile on both offense and defense. Keep your eye on the Lancers.
Cathedral “Phantoms” – With their “Back-to-Back” rivalry and key Angelus League win over Salesian last week, the Phantoms continue to remain undefeated overall at (7-0) and in league play at (2-0). They have proven to be one of the most watched teams in So. Cal this season. Expectations are always extremely high for the Phantoms at this time of the year.
Salesian “Mustangs“ – The Mustangs have no quit in them and they will definitely bounce back from the disappointing rivalry loss to Cathedral last Friday. Even losses have their silver linings and there may be one in the defeat. Any way you look at, compare, or analyze the Mustangs, they’re still a very dangerous opponent on any given Friday Night.
