Week #7 – “Round-Up” – 10.9.15 Photo Gallery A

By Rico Cabrera, Sr. Oct 15, 2015
NotELASS Logo #2Ae #1 From The Editor:  As we near the 2/3 or images-83/4 mark of the season, (depending on school schedules) it’s time to take that most calculated and all-important look ahead to the current League standings, the eventual playoff bids, and the projected seedings for all of the nine  high schools we’ve coverd in 2015. The home-stretch call in the “Sport of Kings”  is one of the most memorized and dramatic phrases in all of sports when the announcer makes his call – “…as they round the final turn, and head for home..,”  we take the same metaphorical approach for our teams as they keep their eyes on the prize and their post-season dreams alive. We hope that your team will have a shot at making the playoffs and then going as far as they can. Good luck to All  of our Teams and Schools!!
Note #2 From The Editor:  This posting offers you our usual “Round-Up” as we’ve now completed Week #7.  We’ve also continued with our playoff forecast and include our photo galleries covering the  Salesian “Mustangs”  and the  Bishop Amat “Lancers.”  Rico Cabrera, Sr./Editor, EastLASportsScene.Com

Eastern League:
Garfield “Bulldogs”  – Will definitely make it. Winning-out puts them in great position for a 1st round game with the “home, sweet home”  field advantage. Coach Lorenzo Hernandez has developed an accepted customary “winning time” blueprint for his team as they rise to “peak” performances at this  time of the season, Bulldogs always generate strong momentum to close-out their opponents.
South Gate “Rams – Same outlook, but they do have a huge Eastern League match-up just down the road against Garfield. The Rams always get themelves “pumped-up” for this time of the season by putting in the extra hard work. This battle-tested and imporoved team looks to earn a much higher seeding than last year.
Roosevelt “Rough Riders” – Possible. After their BYE week, a lot will be riding on this Friday’s road-game performance against Bell. A win keeps them in the playoff picture. A loss could put them at risk of making it due to their league and overall record. There may still be time to figure things out and hope that they find some unexpected help with possible upsets in other League games.
Northern League:
Lincoln “Tigers” –  Looking fairly probable right now. Last week’s disappointing loss to 1st place Eagle Rock was hard to accept and nevertheless adds a league defeat to their record. Momentum can still be re-captured with several more convincing wins. If the Tigers “win-out” they give the selection committee some much needed food for thought.
Wilson “Mighty Mules” – Highly probable. A tough road still lies ahead for the team. If they can “win-out,” then this could assure them a playoff bid. As the old saying goes, they “carry their own fate in their hands at this point”… but any extra help from other teams would be greatly appreciated. A few more quality wins could really help the cause.
Torres “Toros” – Won’t happen this year. The season has not been very successful in terms of the number of wins due to a number of scenarios that we’ve previously mentioned in our coverage. However, each Coach and player/student-athlete will finish up with their best efforts in keeping the Toros’ tradition alive and well. May need to be re-classified by John Aguirre and his office.
<CIF Southern Section>
Bishop Amat “Lancers” – Count them in. Main goal…earn share of Mission League title, and attain its greater 2015 season goal— earning a shot at the CIF/SS Championship. Lancers are currently ranked #6 in CIF/SS Div. Pac-5 playoff poll. Only blemishes on record are perennial National and Southern California high school football “powerhouses” – Mater Dei and Serra.
Cathedral “Phantoms” – Highly Optimistic. Each and every year the Phantoms put together a very competitive squad that is: 1) ranked; 2) plays solid offense and defense; 3) performs in exciting ways for its growing fan-base, and 4) continues to develop a powerful brand of football. Won last year’s Salesian  game by wide margin and would like to repeat that this season as well.
Salesian “Mustangs“ – Very probable. The Mustangs always know when it’s winning time during League play. This week, it’s the rivlary game with Cathedral that has the team, school, student body, alumni, and much of the Boyle Heights Community all primed and ready to go. They look to “win-out” and earn a coveted playoff bid.
