Note #1
Fro
m The Editor: For All of our dedicated and devoted high school football fans, let’s call it “half-time” on the field of play as we pause for the cause and reflect on how the season is going for all of our teams. Our Week #6 “Round-Up” is now in the books and several of our covered teams are definitely in the running for a league title, while playoff seeding is still a goal for others. Many of the remaining games are “key” and will determine the expected outcomes for all coaches, players, teams, schools, student-bodies, alumni, and their supportive communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with all! Last note on this posting….we’re including the Bishop Amat, Wilson vs. Lincoln, and the Kenny Washington Game V Memorial Tribute photo galleries from this past week for your viewing appreciation.
Brief Team Notes From The Editor:
Bishop Amat: Head Coach Steve Hagerty has his “Lancers” in “near-peak” mode as they cruised to their fifth consecutive win in a row. The Amat offensive, defensive, and special teams juggernauts are doing quite well at the half-way mark of the season but their biggest test comes this Friday on the road when the Lancers travel to Serra (Gardena) in a crucial Mission League encounter. The winner could be the odds-on favorite to capture the League title. Look for more outstanding play to come from #91 Ryan Muñoz, Senior/DL and #77 Aaron Maldonado, only a sophomore/DL.
Lincoln: Head Coach Albert Carrillo has to really like the vast improvement that his “Tigers” have made in their last two games. They’ve literally changed from a team surrounded in doubt with no wins, to a team in strong hope to reach the City playoffs, after dispatching the Wilson “Mules” for their second Northern League victory. The win keeps them undefeated in League play. This was a huge win for the Tigers who wore their “Throwback” jerseys in honor and commemoration of one of their most famous alumni, Kenny Washington. This game celebrated the 5th Annual Memorial contest in his name.
Wilson: Head Coach Eddie Martinez knows the “back-to-back” emotion of experiencing an exhilarating victory as well as the agony of defeat. Just take a look at his last two games to see why. First, the dramatic win over their arch-rival, Franklin two weeks ago, (27-26) only to be followed by their shut out (35-0) loss to the Lincoln “Tigers” last week. They have no other options but to re-group and get ready for their next opponent and continue their quest for more wins and a possible playoff berth. Don’t count the “Mighty Mules” out yet. The Lincoln loss dropped them to (1-1) in Northern league play.
Roosevelt: Head Coach Javier Cid has been on what seems like a big “roller-coaster “ ride this season. They opened the preseason with a solid win over Fairfax, lost a couple in a row to San Pedro and Arleta, then defeated Eagle Rock. After losing a hard-fought game to Huntington Park in the 1st Annual “Coliseum GridIron Classic” two weeks ago, the “Rough Riders” rebounded nicely last week with a very convincing win over L.A. Jordan “Bulldogs” on their home turf. The Riders return on 10/16 when they face the Bell “Eagles” on the road. The Eagles have a (0-6) overall record and are (0-2) in League play.
