Note From The Editor: On the 14th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on our country, many scheduled games this week called for a “Moment of Silence” in respect for the thousands who were kllled on September 11, 2001. As we have come to know, the by-word phrase that will always be a part of our national memory and consciousness is “We Will Never Forget!” We, at EastLASportsScene.Com, also pause and take a moment to commemorate all of the Fallen, their Families, Friends, First Responders, Our Armed Forces, and All of our Fellow Citizens who helped in our nation’s recovery from that fatal and unforgettable act during this “Patriot Day” Weekend. Week #3 is now in the books and the season keeps rolling along. One more week of non-conference games for most schools and then the real season begins.
Note #2 From The Editor: This posting features our “Round-Up” of Week #3’s Final Scores and Next Opponents, plus our spectacular photo gallery which is attracting many, many new viewers and followers. We ask you to keep returning to see our dedicated student-athletes in prime-time action. Again, our commitment is to bring you a comprehensive, weekly snapshot of what’s going with our nine local high schools, East L.A. College, plus players on D-1/D-2/D-3 college rosters and on designated NFL teams, and last, but certainly not least, our Pop Warner & Youth Programs. We will do so in our customary format by bringing you brief recaps, round-ups, and write-ups, highlighting our “Names in the Games” and always offering great and captivating photo galleries. Quick Look At “Names In The Games”
Congrats To Gavin Escobar /TE/6-6/249/San Diego State/Born in New York City, for his huge TD reception from QB/Tony Romo in yesterday’s inaugural Sunday Night Football game of the 2015 season. An amazing TD in the sense that it was a collaboration of two veteran NFL players of Latino descent before millions of viewers and fans on a global level. The 2 yd TD catch came with 4:01 left in the 3rd quarter and cut the New York Giants’ lead to 3 at 16-13. The Cowboys won this game (27- 26) in dramatic fashion when Romo drove the Cowboys 72 yds in the final 1:27 of the game with no time-outs left, and scored the winning TD when he completed an 11 yd pass to TE/Jason Witten with just 7 seconds left in the game.
Congrats to former Mater Dei wide receiving standout, #18 Thomas Duarte, for his outstanding play in UCLA’s first two games of the new season against Virginia and UNLV. He has given Freshman QB/Josh Rosen a veteran receiver’s skill-set, resulting in many timely plays between the two, for the undefeated and #10 nationally ranked Bruins.
