Eastern League:
Garfield “Bulldogs” – Congrats!! to the Eastern League Champions in their triumph over the South Gate Rams in the title deciding game of undefeated teams. For their outright victory, the Bulldogs are seeded #3 in D-1 playoffs and will go against #14 El Camino Real. In what was measured as another great and competitve game between these schools, the Bulldogs pulled out a 1 point victory and vaulted themselves into a first round Home game.
South Gate “Rams” – Congrats to the runners-up in the Eastern League. The Rams should remain a very dangerous and formidable threat in the playoffs. There’s that tough road ahead but the #9 seeded Rams and Coach Casagran have been here before and will fight to the very end. Losing is not an option for this talented group of players and coaches. This title game earns our choice for “Game of The Year-2015.” The Rams now take on the #8 seeded San Pedro “Pirates.”
Roosevelt “Rough Riders” – Dropped their season finale against South East in another shoot-out, falling short by 7 points and falling short of a playoff bid as well. The playoffs were a stretch to make based on their league record, but there was always a glimmer of hope. We’ll do our best to keep our fans and followers informed on the Team’s and Athletic Department’s plans for next season.
Northern League:
Wilson “Mighty Mules” – Congrats!! on your #11 Divison 3 playoff seed and your #3 spot in League. The Mules travel to Huntington Park, where their opponent, Marquez High is located. It will be a #6 seed versus an #11. Nonetheless, the Mules are certainly glad that their season has been extended due to an outstanding overall record and consistent competitiveness. If the Mules are all healthy and ready-to-go, they should come away with a huge road victory.
Lincoln “Tigers” – Congrats!! on your #13 Division 2 playoff seed and your #2 finish in League. The team fought hard all season and their perseverence, their grit, and their pride carried them through the tough times. Bouyed by a very nice 3 game win streak in the heart of the season provided the Tigers with a huge confidence builder. Their playoff opponent is #4 seed Canoga Park. Time to put the hard hats back on and get to work!!
Torres “Toros” – The finale vs. Sotomayor brings the “Toros” their first win of the season and ends their losing streak at 19, ten from last season and nine this year. Not an easy claim or a won-loss record to truly accept, but the program will be rebuilt and restored for 2016. Congrats!
<CIF Southern Section>
Bishop Amat “Lancers” – Congrats!! Playoffs and a great seed with Home field advantage secured. First up will be Norco on the Lancers home turf. One of the most-watched Leagues/Divisions in the state and country, the PAC-5 will show us the “Best of the Best.” in CIF/SS players and teams. Glad to see that Bishop Amat is represented and anchored on the “D” line by our Eastside pride, the M & M boys, #91 Ryan Muñoz & #77 Aaron Maldonado.
Cathedral “Phantoms” – Congrats!! A first-round home playoff game is the reward for the ranked Phantoms. Now they are ready for another run at the playoffs and a championship. First opponent will be Crescenta Valley, a very disciplined team. Cathedral has remained healthy for most of the season and should handle their business in this match-up. When JR/QB Andrew Tovar is finding his #1 weapon, Renard Bell, the scorboard usually lights up big time.
Salesian “Mustangs” – Due to the loss, the 2015 playoffs were not a given reality for the Mustangs. A rare occurrence compared to the previous solid runs they’ve recently had. It was probable at best, that they could have earned an at-large berth, but the Angelus League was extremely tough this season, with very little room left at the top. The Mustangs’ overall record was an even 5-5, but their league record was a sub-par 2-3, giving them a 5th place finish. Good luck to the Mustangs in the 2016 season.
