USC Sweeps USD in NCAA’s 2nd Round

ELASS Logo #2ANote #1 From The Editor:  USC’s #1 seeded logo“Women of Troy”  (32-2) continued on their focused course of reaching the finals in the NCAA’s “Big Dance”  of volleyball, (aka On The Road To The Final Four,) in the Women’s Championship, by eliminating the University of San Diego “Toreros”  on December 4th in a second round tournament match at the Galen Center.  The Trojans swept the Toreros  (3-0), by scores of 25/20, 25/23; and 25/13. They now prepare for the third and fourth rounds of the NCAA’s designated Western Regionals  to be held at the University of San Diego’s Jenny Craig Pavilion  this Friday and Saturday. Join the excitement of watching the Trojans in this unique two-track posting of video game highlights with post-match interviews, along with our customary photo gallery. Great viewing and reading to you ahead!
Match Summary: The “Women of Troy”  went into early attack mode against their opponents but were met with stiff resistance in the early parts of each set. By mid-way through each of the three sets, the Trojans were in dominant separation mode and finished strongly in each set to stave off any threats of a Torero come-back. Once again, the USC Trojan Captain, and PAC-12  record-setting outside hitter, Samantha Bricio,  rose to the occasion as she led her team with the following match stat line: 21 kills/1 block/8 digs/3 service aces/24.5 points. She was nicely complimented and greatly assisted with solid play by teammates, Alicia Ogoms,  5 blocks/11 kills/13.5 points; Elise Ruddins,  7 kills/4 blocks, 10 Points; Brittany Abercrombie,  6 Kills/1 asst./3 digs/1 block/6.5 points; Alyse Ford,  5 kills/1 dig/5/ blocks/7.5 points; Baylee Johnson,  1 kill/20 assts./9 digs/2 blocks/2.0 points; and Taylor Whittingham  (Libero), 4 assts./13 digs, the core group that Head Coach Mick Haley  always counts on for huge match productions.

Note #2 From The Editor:  Last reminder….. if you haven’t yet seen, or watched Samantha  play, and dominate the game of volleyball, then this weekend should be for you. Their match against 16th  seeded Creighton University  (27-8), on Friday will be televised on ESPNU  at 8 pm, and should they win, their next match is on Saturday, again on ESPNU  at 8 pm versus the winner of Kansas and Loyola-Marmount/L.A. (LMU).
We also continue with our ongoing “Salute To Our Veterans”  through the visual graphics found in our photo gallery. We invite you to join us in advancing our EastLASportsScene.Com’s military veterans theme:  Remembering and Thanking them year-round!  Rico Cabrera, Sr./Editor, EastLASportsScene.com
