[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] On the L.A. Sparks’ “Pride Night”, their 7,348 adoring fans were treated to another consecutive victory against the Chicago Sky as they stretched their new, historic franchise record winning streak to an incredible 10. In addition, they witnessed another stellar, and dynamic All-Star performance by the team’s young and maturing power forward, #30 Nneka Ogwumike. When the final horn sounded, she had notched her amazing sixth “Double-Double” during this torrid and spectacular win-streak. When her teammates are asked how to describe her play, you immediately hear replies such as “inspirational,” “contagious,” “unbelievable,” and “we’ve never seen anything like this before,” just to name a few. Now, it’s time to check out our video highlights and the photogallery. Rico Cabrera, Sr./Managing Editor, EastLASportsScene.Com
Brief Game Summary: As we mentioned in our lead-in comment, Nneka Ogwumike, the former Stanford All-American, showed her talents to their fullest extent as she dominated the Sky’s front court, time after time, with powerful drives, jump shots, and put-backs for the entire game. And, not to overlook her defensive skills, she was credited with 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
Mix in the effective leadership and scoring abilities of point guard Kristi Toliver, center/forward #3 Candace Parker, a scoring three-spot player, Essence Carson, then add in the team’s defensive “stopper,” small forward #0 Alana Beard and great off-the-bench scoring from guard, #12 Chelsea Gray and power forward, Jantel Lavender, and there you have a great recipe for winning.
The Sparks, as a team, had five players score in double figures for the eighth time in 10 games and it a looks like this will become a standard pattern and practice for the rest of the season, barring injuries of course.
