LOS ANGELES – This past July 18, 2022, in collaboration with the Phoenix Mercury and Brittney Griner’s Heart & Sole Shoe Drive, the L.A. Sparks donated shoes collected throughout the WNBA season to Covenant House California.
The highly popular Sparks guard, Brittney Sykes, aka “Slim”, joined front office staff to make the donation. Covenant House California serves homeless youth aged 14–20, and is designed to transition them out of homelessness and into independent adulthood.
The Sparks organized a dedicated shoe drive on July 4th when the team hosted the Phoenix Mercury. The ongoing initiative serves to amplify Brittney Griner’s annual Heart & Sole Shoe Drive in the Phoenix metropolitan area, as well as raise awareness about her wrongful detainment in Russia.
The 501 (c)3 registered Non-Profit organization, Hav A Sole, whose mission is to provide marginalized populations with quality footwear to encourage healthier lifestyles, also contributed to the giveaway.
