As a quick rebound to their heartbreaking loss to the Minnestoa Lynx on June 21st, the L.A. Sparks got back into the Win column with a victory over the Connecticut Sun on the day that featured a Salute to “Latino Heritage.” The Sparks continue to amaze their fans, as well as the entire WNBA and its growing fan base, with their unbelievable start and their current 13-1 record. At present, they are just one game out of first place, right behind the Lynx in the Western Conference. This unprecedented run by the Sparks is definitely the buzz in, and around the growing Sparks Nation. Fans are turning out in healthy and consistent numbers as the team’s “Big Three,” aka, Candace “CP3” Parker, Nneka “The Big O” Ogwumike, and Kristi “The Sharpshooter” Toliver all continue to play on an entirely different level. Today’s match-up featured, for the first time this season, a sister confronting her sister in a professional basketball game. The sisters of course, are Nneka (the elder) and Chiney Ogwumike, (the younger), the 3rd year player for the Connecticut Sun. Both played their collegiate basketball at Stanford and both were unanimous All-American selections. Here’s the Sister vs. Sister statline: Nneka: 27 pts/7 rebs/3 assts/2 steals/2 blks. Chiney:16 pts/8 rebs/1 blk. Other Sparks players scoring in double digits were Candace Parker 10, and Essence Carson, also with 10. Final score, Sparks 80, Sun 73. Next up for the Sparks on 6/28 are the Dallas Wings.

Take a good look at the festive representation and enjoy our culture that made this a truly enriching, enthralling, and colorful tribute. Rico Cabrera, Sr./Managing Editor, EastLASportsScene.Com
