In Week #5, the Roosevelt Rough Riders made the Friday game-day trip to Westchester HS very anxious to play their final non-conference game of the 2017 season. The theme for this game was “East Meets West.” Roosevelt of course representing the Eastern League, and Westchester, the Western League.
Coming into the match-up with an unblemished record of (4-0) and a #8 ranking in the SoCal Prep Insider/Fox Sports West’s weekly poll, Roosevelt’s Head Coach, Ricardo Zepeda was certainly ready to exercise his game plan, and hopefully come away with an extremely important road win.

The Comets opened the scoring on their first drive and then the Riders countered nicely with their first score to tie the game at 7-7. Once again the Riders came right back in the 2nd quarter and scored its second TD on the strength and determination of its #1 running back, #36 Frankie Cruz. #12 QB Raymundo Reynoso did a remarkable job all game in running the Rider offense. Then, with 13 seconds left in the game, Comet QB, Jonathan Murphy found his running back, Estabon Bozeman open at the Riders 8 yd line. He then sprinted into the end zone with the winning TD that came with just 2.2 seconds remaining in the game. On the ensuing kick-off, the Riders could only manage a last-ditch effort to run it back with several laterals before the horn sounded ending the game. FINAL SCORE: Westchester, 27, Roosevelt 21.
