(Boyle Heights, CA)—The Roosevelt Rough Riders recorded their first-ever “split-game” win over the South East Jaguars on Friday, 10/12/18 and then on Monday, 10/15/18 by the final score of (42-0). With this win, the Riders improved their overall record to (6-3) and their Eastern League record to (3-2). Let’s explain how this victory was recorded.
First of all, the regular scheduled day of this Eastern League game was Friday, 10/12. However, the game was halted after the teams played only one quarter. This was unprecedently due to a sudden rain downfall, accompanied by a tremendous lightning storm. At that point, the game officials huddled with the Head Coaches and School Administrators and all decided that it was in the players’, the student body’s, and all visitors’ safety concerns that the game be suspended at that time. Once the CIF/L.A. City Section Office agreed to the resumption of the game, at the point of interruption, it was back on and set for Monday, 10/15 at 2:30 pm.

The South East Jaguars took their second possession of the quarter and mounted a brief drive before having to punt. At this point, the period had just ended and the rain began to fall. Not far behind came the lightning storm which dazzled everyone with a scary, but night sky-filled light show. The score at this point was (8-0) RHS.
2nd Qtr—When play resumed Monday, 10/15, it came with a beautiful, sunny 80 degree Fall afternoon. A cool breeze was also felt. The Riders resumed the game had the ball on the South East 25 yd. line. Their drive had them marching towards the end zone. They scored their second TD at the 10 minute mark when #3 RB Rumaje Blumfield took the pitch from #5 QB Andres Flores and ran the power sweep for a 25 yd. touchdown. 3rdQtr—The Riders defense held the Jaguars scoreless in this period. Roosevelt’s first-year Head Coach Aldo Parral’s offense continued to work in other areas of their play-book. They would score TDs on a 32 yd. TD pass from Flores to Rivera, followed by a picture-perfect 60 yd. punt return for an untouched TD by Angel Ochoa. The Riders ended the quarter with another 13 points on those two TDs.
4thQtr—The Riders closed out the scoring with at the 8 minute mark on 6 yd. TD run by RB/Andres Flores, moved to that position by Coach Parral for this scoring drive.
