(East Los Angeles, CA) August 12, 2021 [From The Editor’s Desk]: The theme for this day and our third day of training camp coverage on August 8th, was Youth Sports Day, and once again the Rams did not disappoint the hundreds of their young fans who eagerly came out to participate in the summer fun while knowing that their favorite team was also present doing their drills in practice as they prepared for the start of their new 2021 NFL season.
Let us offer you our Photo Gallery of the players as they were put through their paces by their position coaches and then by Head Coach, Sean McVay on the main practice field in front of the thousand enthusiastic Ram fans who spent their Wednesday afternoon on the University of California, Irvine (UCI) campus. We’ve also captured some crowd pictures of the fans who were totally engrossed in watching the team do some “7-on-7” and then “11-on-11″ drills.
Here are just a few of the Rams standouts that our photographer, Erik Sarni, was able to capture for your viewing insights: #99 DT-Aaron Donald; #2 WR-Robert Woods; #5 CB-Jalen Ramsey; #9 QB-Matt Stafford; #23 RB-Cam Akers; #77 OL-Andrew Whitworth; #10 WR-Cooper Kupp; #12 WR-Van Jefferson; #41 LB-Kenny Young; #89 TE-Tyler Higbee. More of Erik’s photos can be seen on our 8/4/21 posting of “Opening Day” of Training Camp. To view them, click here.
During the fans’ time at the practice, there were many engaging activities that were set up by the Rams staff that ensured each and everyone a great experience of being near their favorite players, while giving them a glimpse of what they will look like in less than a month before the official start of the season on September.
For example, here’s what was in store for all attendees on this day of camp. All youth, ages (5-12), were given the chance to receive a Rams Royal & Sol arm sleeve upon entry. In partnership with Gatorade, the Rams hosted a Junior Training Camp for students (Grades 6-9) in the always popular Kids Zone from 12:45 – 2:00 p.m. Participants were also led in football-related drills and were present for a discussion about health and wellness with Rams Legend LeRoy Irvin from 1:45 – 2pm. Rounding out a few more activities that the Staff extended to all youth, were the special recognitions of students-athletes from the Saddleback Pop Warner Youth Football program and the football & sports-loving youngsters from the Boys and Girls Club of Orange County.
Giveaways of the Day: A large, but limited supply of Rams-themed Arm Sleeves that were distributed to Training Camp attendees.
Photos & Autographs of the Day: #89, Fred Dryer, the 6-6, Hawthorne native, Lawndale HS grad, El Camino Community College & San Diego State grad who played Defensive End for the Rams from 1972-1981. His NFL claim to fame is that he was the only player to be credited with (2) safeties in one game. Also present was #47, LeRoy Irvin, 5-11, Kansas University, who was the Rams starting Cornerback from 1980-1989. He was also a 2 x Pro-Bowler and 4 x All-Pro. Irvin’s claim to NFL fame is that he is one of only a few players in NFL history to be named All-Pro at two positions. Both Legends appeared at the UNIFY autograph station in the fan activation zone.
