Roosevelt “Rough Riders” 31 Fairfax “Lions”
13 Recap: After leading the Lions by 13-7 at half-time, the Riders lighted up the scoreboard with 3 TDs in the 3rd quarter. Wilson “Mighty Mules” 34 Roybal “Titans” 12 Recap: After three weeks of solid practice and preparation for the new season, the “Mighty Mules” of Wilson High were very eager to receive the Roybal “Titans” in this non-conference Home opener. Then, on “Game Day,” they opened the 2014 campaign with a very convincing 35-12 victory and all to the great satisfaction of their large Alumni turn-out for this game. Standout Wilson players in Game #1 included Elijah Collins/RB who rushed for 2 TDs; Chris Allagoa/WR, who scored twice on passes from A.J. Wright/QB. Wright also ran one in for a score. There were plenty of “High-Fives” from the Coaching Staff to go around for the multi-talented and spirited defensive unit for limiting & containing the Titans’ offense in this match-up. The Mules next travel to Santee in Week #2 to face the “Falcons” in another non-league contest. EM/WHS & RC/ELASS.COM

Huntington Park “Spartans” 60 Torres “Toros” 14
Recap: The visiting “Spartans” came ready to play. They displayed a high-octane offense from the start, and cruised to an overwhelming victory. Aaron Gutierrez/RB, was a one man wrecking crew for the Spartan offense as he rang up 170 yds. in rushing. The HP offense maintained ball control the entire game. The Spartans were threatened only once in the first half when the Toros put together back-to-back TDs. The first came on a great 50 yd. run by Erik Sanchez/RB, and the second, after a Toro fumble recovery, on a quick 4 yd. scamper by Jose Munive/RB. The Toros were plagued by excessive special teams turnovers which contributed to the final large margin of victory for HP. The Toros play the Monroe “Vikings” in their 2nd consecutive home game in Week #2. RC/ELASS.COM
Jefferson “Democrats” 17 Lincoln “Tigers” 14 Recap: The “Tigers” opened the season on the road against the “Demos,” of the Coliseum League. The Tigers could not sustain an offense in the 2nd half, while the Demos scored 10 for the winning, but narrow margin of victory. Tiger game highlights belonged to Brayan Figueroa/RB, who scored on a 90 yd. kick-off return, & Dakota Ridgeway/WR who caught 1 TD pass. On defense, Justin Garcia/DB got credit for 2 fumble recoveries. Unfortunately, Senior, Brandon Oroxon, starting WR, did not play because of hamstring tightness. South Gate “Rams” 35 Westchester “Comets” 0 Recap: The”Rams” opened up their season on the road and took care of business in a dominant fashion as they shut-out their opponent. As the City’s Division 2 Runner-Up last year, South Gate’s Head Coach Jose Casagran and his team have not missed a beat thanks to the great rushing skills of All-City & 2013 Division 2 “Offensive Player of the Year,” Lavell Thompson/RB, who racked up 148 yds. & scored twice. His teammate Lee Dalequan/WR, caught 8 passes for 118 yds. The Rams’ stingy defensive unit was led by Jonathan Estrada/MLB, who was credited with 10 tackles and Wendell Findley/CB, who earned himself a “Pick-6” for the game. South Gate plays the University HS “Wildcats” in their home opener in Week #2. RC/ELASS.COM
