L.A. Based Women’s Full-Tackle Football Team Headed to National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, 7/28/18
(Los Angeles, CA)—The undefeated Los Angeles Warriors (11-0), a women’s full-tackle football team will be headed to Atlanta, GA in the hunt for the Division I – Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Championship title. They hope to bring home the National title to L.A., a feat that has not been accomplished in women’s football since 2002. The WFA is a national women’s league with 60+ teams throughout the U. S. that compete between the months of April – July for a chance at the “Superbowl” of women’s football.
Ranked #2 in the nation, the L.A. Warriors roster is made up of women from all areas of the city. There are students, mothers, professionals, peace officers and veterans that suit up every week and hit the gridiron. They spend their off-season training, just as other football teams do, as well as being involved in community service projects such as football clinics and speaking at schools.
For the past 9 years, the L.A. Warriors have been steadily building a championship team, and their hard work and dedication has paid off in the 2018 season. They finished the regular season with a 9-0 record, playing teams from San Diego to as far as Portland, OR. In the Pacific Region Championship held on June 30th, the Warriors defeated the Portland Fighting Shockwave, (39-6). On July 14, they traveled 1,630+ miles to meet the Kansas City Titans in Independence, MO. Although the Warriors were down (7-3) at the half, they rallied with 24 unanswered points and came home as the American Conference Champions with a (27-14) win.
They are truly a talented team entering into the National sphere with an impressive (11-0) record. Furthermore, their stats are outstanding. Erika Collins, QB, is currently ranked #8 in passing with 430 yds and 7 TDs. Both of the Warriors’ running backs, Priscilla Gardner, ranked #2 in rushing with 568 yds/9 TDs and #8 ranked Alexis Snyder with 400 yds./6 TDs. Their combined yardage is just over 1,000 total yards. Also. there are 10 players that hold Top 25 records in the nation in passing, rushing, and tackles. From a local rostered player perspective, East L.A. resident, #58 Stephanie Lopez/DL, put up these impressive season numbers: 29 combined tackles, 20 solo tackles, 1 interception, 35 returned yards and 1 fumble recovery.
The WFA National Championship will be held on July 28th at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, GA. The game will be filmed and streamed live through ESPN 3/http://www.espn.com/watch/roadblock?id=3407333&_slug_=2018-womens-football-national-championship.
The L.A. Warriors will be facing the Boston Renegades, who beat the D.C. Divas (34-32) in the other Semi-final game..
