Note From The Editor: We truly appreciate your loyal and consistent following via our Facebook Fan Page and Internet connections. We’ve started 2015 with positive energies as we continue productions of new programs. Our goal is to bring you important and relevant content for our East L.A. community and Beyond as we begin our “Silver Anniversary” and 25th consecutive year of East L.A, Sports Scene.
Sports will always be a part of our lives, and just like our heartbeats, we hope and pray for them to keep motivating us on to a better and healthier life style. One of our“Key” 2015 missions, via our monthly calendar, will be to keep everyone informed of recreational events that are beneficial to our community whether they happen to be family-friendly 5Ks/Walks/Runs/Bike Rides, or classes on personal health improvement, exercise, zumba, yoga, or swimming at local YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, Churches, Recreation, Community, Youth & Senior Citizen Centers and soon to be included, some significant cultural events. Hang in here with us as we keep the ball rolling on many facets of our great and diverse community.
We strongly encourage anyone who is working in our L.A. City & L.A. County Recreation Centers and would like to promote their programs to the community, then by all means please take advantage of our Calendar posting resource. Join the Lady Bridge Runners for a 3.20 mile community run in honor of International Women’s Day. This first ever run is designed to bring women of all levels together in an action of solidarity with women athletes and activists world wide. We believe that public space should be open and safe for women identified people, and that health is every women’s right. This event is open for women identified people. Our East L.A. Bulldogs Football & Cheer teams are always anxious around this time since it means another year of growing, playing, cheering, and getting better with age and experience. In addition, there are extra academic opportunities and tutoring for all participants. Remember, mark your calendars for April 18th at Belevdere Park.

In all sports and at every position speed is a very crucial element. Whether you play football, baseball, or basketball improving your speed to maintain a competitive edge is a must. Shaving a tenth or a couple hundred seconds off your 40-yard dash can mean the difference in receiving a scholarship offer or even being drafted by a NFL, NBA, or MLB team.

Spring is now in the air and of course, so is baseball. Here’s the first announcement that Obregon Park, L.A. County Rec. & Parks, is now taking sign-ups for their annual Little League teams in several divisions that are listed below. Mom and Dad, we hope you take advantage of the opportunity to enroll your kids into this well-followed and highly popular youth program that proudly serves the youth of our community. As the saying goes,“Let’s play ball!” Good luck to all players.
* April 1st & All Wednesdays Of The Month, at 8 pm. The Boyle Heights Bridge Runners Club Weekly Run.
There it is! The mighty 4th Street Bridge, waiting for all of the action to begin each and every Wednesday night. The Boyle Heights Bridge Runners Club sponsors a weekly evening community “Run” across the bridge, starting in Boyle Heights at the Mariachi Plaza. The short 3 mile route then heads west to our Civic Center and then
winds back to the starting point. The group routinely gathers at at El Espacio, 1839 E. 1st St., (right near the Plaza) at 7:45 pm to stretch, receive a brief introduction/orientation, and then it’s off to the “Run the Bridge” at 8 pm sharp. At the Run’s conclusion, a group stretch is done at Mariachi Plaza before everyone breaks up.This has become a great way to stay healthy, as well as meeting new friends. For more information on how to join up, go to their FaceBook page and type in Boyle Heights Bridge Runners. The Run is also broken down for Beginners and Advanced. The formula is easy to follow and adapt to- (3) miles for the Advanced and (2) miles for the Beginners group. Beginners will do (5) intervals of (4) minutes running/with (2) minutes walking. The group’s Directors say they are nearing their goal of establishing (5) minutes running/with (1) minute walking at the (3) mile route.No excuses now!
