This match-up features the Riders’ 8th year Head Coach, Mario Perez’s deepest run ever in the CIF/L.A. City Section’s basketball post-season tournament. To draw a comparison in how the seasons come and go, the last time the Rough Riders advanced this far in the City Section’s post-season play was in 2007 when, the Head Coach at that time, Gabriel Trejo, confronted the Hamilton Yankees and suffered a hard-fought, but overtime loss at home by the score of (51-42).
And much prior to that, it was in 1994 when then Head Coach, and current Roosevelt Athletic Director, Dave Perea, guided his team to an L.A. Unified School District City Championship game before losing a final seconds heartbreaker to the Banning Pilots. That game was played in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.
Now, we’re back in the present of year 2020 and ready to support the Rough Riders in their quest to reach the summit of their sensational season—a shot at the L.A. City Section Division 2 Title.
