The Editor: We are presenting this production as part of our archived special presentations. We deeply apologize for the late airing, but in so doing, we will always place a high value on bringing these stories to our viewers’ attention, especially to the players, coaches, and student bodies of their schools.
During their playoff run into the quarterfinals, Lincoln High School’s Head Coach Albert Carrillo and several of his top players took a quick “time-out” from practice and stoppped in to our studio at the Boyle Heights Technology Youth Center for a very important “2nd Season” media update in their 2014 season.
At the time of our interview, the“Tigers” were on the verge of their 2nd Round (Quarterfinal) appearance against the #1 seeded Hamilton“Yankees” on 11/21/14. Their visit gave us a great opportunity to meet “up-close and personal,” Carrillo’s veteran student-athetes who undeniably brought much more attention to their program this season. Take a look at our presentation and learn more about them, their historic school, its tradition in the L.A. Unified School District, and the unique legacy left to them by Kenny Washington, UCLA All-American and one of the very first African-Americans to play in the NFL. We hope you enjoy our program featuring the following Lincoln “Tigers” – Albert Ramirez/DB-SR; Brandon Oroxon/WR-SR; Dakota Ridgeway/WR-SR, and Albert Buenrostro/QB-JR.
As a further update to the post-season, of the four players who appear on this show, three were selected to the 1st teams for the 2014 All-Northern League on Offense and one for Defense. As an extra bonus, we are very proud to highlight Dakota Ridgeway on his selection to the 1st Team All-City/Division 2 team as a Wide Receiver as well as being named the 2014 recipient of the Kenny Washington Trophy For Football Excellence, awarded by the Kenny Washington Stadium Foundation (KWSF).
