Note From The Editor: As we begin the 2015 football season, we take a moment to speak with the Head Football Coaches of teams we will be covering. Leading off in that regard, we invite all of our high school football fans, and the fans of Wilson High in particular, to view our pre-season interview with 25 year veteran Head Coach, Eddie Martinez. There was much to talk about and much to learn about Coach Martinez in this interview. One of the main topics spoken about was the upcoming 40th Anniversary and Team/Player Reunion of the 1975 City Championship Team, on Friday, September 25th at Wilson This gala event will coincide with the annual rivalry game with the Franklin “Panthers” in their “Battle For The Victory Bell.” We encourage all Wilson “Mighty Mules” Fans, Students, Alumni, and Community members to purchase your tickets as soon as possible. This should be a standing room only game and tickets may be very scarce in quantities.
Getting back to our In-Studio interview, Coach brought along his 2015 Team Captain, Senior, Offensive & Defensive Lineman, Daniel Avila, and we took the time to sit-down and speak with this outstanding, young student-athlete to round out our program. So, as we always say, pull up a chair, grab a refreshment, and begin to watch our story. Rico Cabrera, Sr./Editor, EastLASportsScene.Com
Note #2 From The Editor: We have also taken the opportunity to share with you the Press Release concerning the 40th Anniversary of the 1975 Championship team as issued by the Wilson Alumni Group. (See below)

WILSON HIGH TO CELEBRATE 40th ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST CITY CHAMPIONSHIP WIN
By Debby Medina Perez, Alumni Group Volunteer Contributor
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 8, 2015
(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Players from Los Angeles Wilson High School’s 1975 City Section 3-A Championship football team will gather to commemorate and celebrate the 40th anniversary of that historic season at this year’s varsity football game against arch-rival Franklin High School on Friday, September 25, 2015.
The 1975 team included Quarterback – Ron Cuccia, “The Italian Stallion,” who earned his first of three 3-A City Section “Player of the Year” honors. During Cuccia’s three years at Wilson, he established national passing and total yardage records in leading the Mules to 39 consecutive wins.
The game has been promoted by the school’s football boosters and alumni on social media. “This game is generating quite a bit of attention in the community, so we’re expecting a good turnout,” said Peter Cabrera, with the Wilson Boosters. Players from Franklin’s 1975 team have also expressed via social media their interest in attending.
During what is being dubbed as the “throwback” football game, Los Angeles City Council member Jose Huizar will present players from the 1975 team with certificates from the city to commemorate their historic win. The 14-7 victory over Bell High School signified the first time in its history Wilson had ever achieved a City Section Football championship title.
Longtime current Head Football Coach Eddie Martinez, who himself was also a member of the 1975 team, explained that the team will be wearing gold “throwback” jerseys—replicas of those worn by the 1975 championship team originally designed by Coach Vic Cuccia. Team boosters also sold replica jerseys to team supporters to wear to the game to raise funds for the current football program, which has been severely affected by the district’s budget cuts. ###
