2011 East L.A. Classic

By Rico Cabrera, Sr. Nov 8, 2011

Screen Shot 2013-06-06 at 6.14.31 PMThe 77th Annual East L.A. Classic offers an opportunity for the Garfield “Bulldogs” to seek “back-to-back” wins over their arch-rivals, the Roosevelt “Rough Riders.” The anticipated crowd for this match-up will approach 20,000 just slightly below the 22,000 capacity for Weingart Stadium, one of the premier playing fields in the country. Viewers should keep their eyes on Bulldog offensive  players such as:  #2 Lance Fernandez, RB,  #40 Larry Ravelo, FB, and #6 Nicky Peralta, QB. All are underclassmen and will be returning for Coach Lorenzo Hernandez next season. The offensive and defensive lines will be anchored by these standout players:  #76 Alfonso Cid, OL; # 15 Raymond Sierra, DE; #65 Gabriel Vega, DL;  and #58 Johnathan Ochoa. Roosevelt and Head Coach Javier Cid, looking for a “bounce-back” victory,  also bring a group of experienced offensive and defensive players into the contest. The offensive unit will be led by #1 Andony Flores, QB and #3 Gilbert Herrera, RB. The defensive will send out a still very young linebacking corps, featuring: #30, Christian Campos, # 40 Erik Guerra, #and #42 Juan Garcia. Also keep your eyes on #20 Luis Madrigal, DB and #72 Richard Sanchez, OL. We invite you to relax and enjoy the 2011 edition of  the East L.A. Classic. High School sports and rivalry at its best!!
