(East Los Angeles, CA.)—The Garfield Bulldogs moved to a perfect (2-0) record as they easily defeated the visiting Schurr Spartans, from Montebello, CA., by the final score of (41-0). It was another statement game for Head Coach Lorenzo Hernandez and his “Bulldawg” defense as they once again played to a higher degree of intensity, shutting down both the opponent’s running and passing games. Due to the forty point scoring spread, the “Mercy Rule” was invoked to start and end the fourth quarter of play. With this victory, the Bulldogs pulled even with the Spartans, on their “home-and-home” contract, having lost to them in last year’s encounter which took place at Schurr during the non-conference schedule of games.
Of Significance...This game marked the first time in our “High School Game of the Week” coverage that the Bulldogs’ game uniforms were very stylish, not only in their all “Black Attack” color scheme, but also with the players’ names appearing on their uniforms. Their look was topped out with an All-Black helmet.
