Wolfpack Speed Camp Now Active Thru June

The Boyle Hts. Wolfpack, members of the San Gabriel Valley Jr. All-American and Pop Warner program, is hosting a weekly Speed Camp at Evergreen Recreation Center every Sunday starting at 10 am. Interested parents who have children, ages 6-14, are welcomed to bring them out and participate in this FREE community event. Current Coaches and Staff members will be in attendance to conduct team skills training and answer any questions regarding their program.


L.A. Marathon Now Accepting Registrations 

Registrations are now being taken for the City of Angels 33rd  Marathon, slated to take place on Sunday, March 18th. For more details click here. It continues to be billed as the Marathon that runners start at the stadium and finish at the sea. From veterans to newbies, this is the Mt. Everest of runs. Are you up to the challenge? If so, please take some time to browse the website that is loaded with tons of great information. Hope you’ve made this a New Year’s resolution. Good luck to all participants. 

 


 UYFL-East L.A. Chapter Still Accepting Sign-Ups 

The East L.A. Chapter of the Urban Youth Football League (UYFL) and Coordinator/Coach Cesar Trillo are back on their field of dreams and they’re inviting our communities in the Greater East L.A. area to come out and take a look first-hand at how they can enroll their son and/or daughter into the ranks. They practice each Tuesday and Thursday at Salesian HS, starting at 6 pm. They also squeeze in an extra day on Saturday from 9 am – 12 noon at Stevenson Middle School. Sign-ups are now being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents, uncles, aunts, and adult cousins—don’t be left out if you have a young loved one who is interested in playing tackle football. Coach Trillo, a native son of Boyle Heights, is a former varsity football letterman and football coach at Roosevelt HS and he was also a member of ELAC’s coaching staff in 2011.

Every Wed. of the Month – Boyle Heights Bridge Runners & Amigas Who Run

Just know that there’s always an open invitation to join this unique group of community members who gather each and every Wednesday night at 7:45 pm in the famous landmark of East L.A. located in Boyle Heights, Mariachi Plaza. There is absolutely NO cost to join in this healthy and socially stimulating weekly event. To find more information go to their Facebook page.


The East L.A. Youth Basketball Club Continues With 2018 Registrations

Parents can still register their children to improve their game and practice skills with the East L.A Basketball Club. This community non-profit organization is directed by former Garfield basketball player and alum, George Contreras. New Fall sign-ups are now being taken for their weekly practice and work-out schedule. See more details below.

The Club offers a year round Co-Ed program, for ages 5-15. The program is designed to introduce the game of basketball to beginners, and the continuous development for intermediate and advanced levels. It focuses on teaching and developing basic fundamental skills, having fun, learning the values of being part of a team, displaying good sportsmanship, competition and advanced training to enhance the skills of each player and to help them reach their fullest potential with the goal and vision of having players ready to play at the high school level. Parents, bring your boy or girl to the Club at Garfield High School and have them join the fun, the learning, the coaching, and the all-around development as a player. 


Where: Garfield High School, 5101 E. 6th St., Los Angeles CA 90022 (off of Woods Ave.)When: Mondays & Fridays/Time: 6:00–8:00 pm (big gym). Membership Fee is $40 a month. Scholarships are available. Ask to speak with Mr. Contreras for more information on scholarships.
