ELAC MEN’S TEAM OFF TO “BEST-EVER” START
The 2015-16 East Los Angeles College “Huskies” men’s basketball team is No. 6 – ranked in the state after posting a 17-2 record during its non-conference schedule, the best start in the Huskies’ 70-year school history. ELAC played in the CCCAA State championship game last season losing to this year’s top-ranked team, Saddleback College, 50-47, and finished the season with a (22-11) overall record.
The Huskies look good to repeat a trip to the CCCAA’s Final Four, if their non-conference play is any indication. This team is stronger this year according to ELAC Head Coach John Mosley.
ELAC won three out of four tournament titles. For the second consecutive year, the Huskies won the “Clash at Canyons Championship,” in December, with a 90-72 win against Oxnard College in the title game.
ELAC freshman guard Chandler Redix (Cathedral HS) was the tournament MVP while sophomore forward Richard Bivens (Ridgecrest HS) made the All-Tournament team. The Huskies also won tournaments at Citrus College and San Diego Mesa College.
On December 5th, then No. 2 ranked San Bernardino Valley College (22-2) handed ELAC its first loss, 89-82. ELAC’s second defeat came in an overtime loss, 84-80, at No. 11 Chaffey College (16-5) on Dec. 19th.
ELAC, who plays in the South Coast Conference/North Division, has five divisional crossover wins in January against SCC South opponents. ELAC started this steak with a 97-76 win at L.A. Southwest College, followed by a 105-82 win against Long Beach City College, then a 70-64 win at L.A. Harbor College, and in “back-to-back” home games, a 90-50 win against El Camino College on 1/15, and lastly an exciting overtime victory over Cerritos College on 1/20/16.
ELAC opened SCC/North play on Friday, 1/22/16, with a huge win over the “Mounties” of Mt. San Antonio College. The Huskies ended Mt. SAC’s eight game win streak in SCC/North play, as they posted an 82-62 victory. The Huskies then defeated Pasadena City College on 1/27 to wrap week #1 in SCC play with a perfect 2-0 record.
