“East L.A. Softball Classic” – Riders Dominate Bulldogs | 3.19.18

Anthony Ramirez/ELASS

Brief Game Summary: The visiting Riders exploded for two big innings as they unloaded home runs, extra base hits, and singles from players throughout their line-up. The Bulldogs only run came early in the game on a called pitcher’s “balk” that forced in the baserunner. After that, the Rider pitching was flawless. By the top of the 6th inning, the score was Riders 13, Bulldogs 1.

Due to Roosevelt’s huge lead, the game was called under the “Mercy Rule” after Garfield’s bottom half of the 6th inning. This encounter marked their first “East L.A. Softball Classic” match-up of the 2018 Eastern League. They will play each other again on April 19th.

Team League Updates: With this victory, Roosevelt is now tied for 1st place with Bell at (3-0), while Garfield falls to 4th at (1-2). The Lady Riders are currently ranked #4 in the Top 25 of Division II, while the Lady Bulldogs are ranked #14. Roosevelt’s two losses came in the first week of the season against Crescenta Valley (Final:7-1) and El Monte (Final:5-1) in the Lincoln Classic Tournament played at Garvey Park.

Among the Eastern League’s leaders in Hitting and Pitching is Roosevelt’s #2 Samantha Islas/SO/P-3B. She is batting over .300 and has 18 strike outs to her credit.

Next Games: Roosevelt won’t play again until 4/3 as they take a two week rest period. When they return they’ll face Huntington Park. Garfield played 3/22 vs. Jordan, and won’t play again until after the Easter school break on 4/3 vs. South Gate @ South Gate.
