East L.A.’s Next Big Hoops Rivalry: Oscar De La Hoya Animo vs. Mendez | LACS Boys

By Rico Cabrera, Sr. Jan 23, 2019

(Boyle Heights)—Attention All of our loyal and newest Fans and Followers…as we are all now aware, the LAUSD  teachers strike has ended and classes have resumed.

With that fact, all CIF/L.A. City Section sporting events are back on. Now it’s time for the Boys varsity basketball teams from Felicitas & Gonzalo Mendez, nicknamed the “Jaguars”  to host the Oscar De La Hoya Animo “Boxers.” To view this rivalry game on “Live Stream” you can subscribe by clicking here.

Therefore, this Friday, 1/25 at 7 pm, East L.A. Sports Scene, as the newest NFHS Network Affiliate, will produce the first-ever “Live Stream”  for this rivalry match-up.

This will be an excellent opportunity to view the game on the following wireless devices: iPhone, android, Apple TV, tablets, laptops and desktops.

De La Hoya (5-12) Overall/(5-2) League is a member of the Galaxy League, Division III, while Mendez (10-5) Overall/(5-2) League, Division III is a member of the Central League. Both are members of the CIF/L.A. City Section (CIF/LACS). This is quickly becoming a comparable rivalry to the 84 year-old competitive tradition that we’ve always known as the “East L.A. Classic” — Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Garfield Bulldogs.

Finally, we’re encouraging early arrivals for the Girls Varsity game at 5:30 pm since we have been informed that this will be the fourth consecutive yearly “standing room only” double-header game format. Remember, if you can’t make it to the game, don’t stress or feel left out. You now have an option in participating in this new and exciting East L.A. high school rivalry.
