Note From The Editor: The Men’s Basketball championship game for the South Coast Conference (North Division) took place on the historic date of February 21, 2014. Historic you say? Well, here’s why. The East L.A. College “Huskies” had not won a conference title since the 1971-72 season. On this night, they repeated, some 42 years later. We invite you to appreciate our coverage of this match-up against the Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) “Mounties.” It was a game which showcased the outstanding coaching skills of John Mosley, plus the 1-2-3 KO punch of Aaron Cheatum, Zach Hinton, and Te’shon Burton, who all stepped up big time in this historic win. For longtime “Huskie” hoop fans, Te’shon is the son of Isaac Burton, the former ELAC great. As a result of their win, Coach Mosley leads his 6th seeded team into the State Southern Calif. Region playoffs on February 28th against Citrus College. The “Huskies” are extremely proud of their 20-8 season and go into the school record book as the first team to have posted “back-to-back” 20 win seasons. Prior to the tipoff, Frankie Aguilar, Fred Brown, Aaron Cheatum, and Zach Hinton were all saluted with their families during “Sophomore Appreciation Night.” Rico Cabrera, Sr./Editor, EastLASportsScene.Com
