Note From The Editor: We take this opportunity to share with all of our followers, a great community effort that focused on how parents in our under-funded sectors of East L.A. can band together successfully and create, then produce a first-class sporting event for the children and families of their respective communities.
Although the actual “Opening Day” of City Terrace Recreation Center Youth Baseball League has come and gone, it’s the positivity and outcome of the story that we focus on. Back in early June, I was approached by City Terrace Parents Sports Association (CTPSA) Board member, Gaby Gonzalez, who kindly asked me to participate in their event as the Master of Ceremonies. I gladly agreed and worked with her closely in the lead-up to the special day of Saturday, June 17th.

In addition to the MC duties, I asked for permission to videotape the event for the City Terrace community to watch and enjoy via EastLASportsScene.Com. The wonderful lesson learned here is that a parent group, with a determined leadership, a clearly defined objective, and a structured association, can prove positive that dreams of planning these types of events in any sport for our deserving youth, are no longer impossible to achieve. Let’s all move forward with “Sí Se Puede” as our rallying cry in the world of sports. Huge Congrats to the CTPSA and the outstanding lesson you’ve taught us. Let us all continue to grow stronger as a community, and as powerful agents of change for our youth, and for our sports-loving families. Positive and healthy changes are ours for the making.
As an extra added bonus to our posting, you will greatly appreciate the outstanding photography by Erik Sarni that appears in our photo gallery.
In my last Note From The Editor…the event featured specially invited guests, who may be seen in our video: Jimmy Gomez, Congressman Elect for the 34th Congressional District, Mercy Santoro, Deputy Director, East County Community Services Agency, Alice Gonzalez, Supervisor, City Terrace Recreation Staff, and former L.A.
