(East Los Angeles, CA) [From The Editor’s Desk]: Just before the arrival of the NFL’s official 2023 Pre-Season Training Camp period, two of the most outstanding and well-known players of the Los Angeles Chargers Football team, in the persons of #3/Derwin James, Jr. and #43/Michael Davis, made a scheduled visit to launch a new reading program under the auspices of their Bolts Book Club, with over 30 members of the Watts Willowbrook Clubhouse in attendance, located at 1339 E 120th St., Los Angeles, CA 90059.

[Los Angeles Chargers Impact Fund Launches Two Innovative Learning Programs in Partnership with Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles
All-Pro Safety Derwin James Jr. & Cornerback Michael Davis Join Students For a Special Reading & Music Session to Kick-off The Programs.
The Chargers Impact Fund, in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles, were thrilled to announce the introduction of two exciting summer programs: the Bolts Book Club and Rhymes with Reason. Designed for first through eighth graders, these initiatives aim to inspire a love for reading and foster language skills through music.
To celebrate the launch of these programs, safety Derwin James Jr. and cornerback Michael Davis held a reading session with the Bolt Book Club students and helped kids create music on the Rhymes with Reason platform.
The Bolts Book Club, an innovative reading incentive program, encourages students to dedicate 20 minutes of their day to reading. The program promotes literacy, imagination, and encourage a passion for books. In addition, Rhymes with Reason—a digital platform—will help enhance vocabulary and language acquisition through the power of music.
On Tuesday, July 18th, Chargers’ Safety (S), Derwin James Jr. and Cornerback (CB) Michael Davis visited the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles to help launch two new, innovative programs designed to inspire a fostering of language skills and an affinity for reading for students in first-through eighth-grade.
James and Davis first engaged in a book-reading session in promotion of the Bolts Book Club, which aims to encourage students to 20 minutes of reading per day in an effort to promote increased literacy rates, imagination growth and a developing passion for books, before joining the students in a collaborative think session to help create a rap song using the new Rhymes with Reason digital platform to enhance vocabulary and language skills through the power of music.
