Chargers New Training Site Taking Shape

By Rico Cabrera, Sr. Aug 8, 2022

(East Los Angeles, CA)  August 8, 2022 [From The Editor’s Desk]: Although this very newsworthy event took place in mid-May, it was such a momentous and compelling story that we simply had to include it for the benefit of our Chargers’ fans.  Therefore, and although the 2022 season is nearly upon us, we present you with this very important team activity. We hope that all of our Chargers fans take a good read on what the team will be expecting to debut for their 2024 NFL pre-season. The  new team training facility will be located in El Segundo, CA.

[ABOUT THE PROJECT]: Designed by Gensler Sports, the project – situated south of El Segundo Boulevard and just east of Pacific Coast Highway on Nash Street – is centrally located less than three miles from Los Angeles International Airport and seven miles from SoFi Stadium.

With an emphasis on player efficiency and movement between spaces that includes direct access to the fields from all player and coaching spaces as well as direct connection between team meeting rooms and exterior walk-though space, specific locations within the new team headquarters include a roof-top hospitality club, full eSports gaming and content studios and a 3,100 square foot media center.

Outside the main building that spans nearly 145,000 square feet, three natural grass fields with an artificial turf perimeter can be taken in from 7,600 square feet of elevated outdoor terrace space. An additional 3,400 square foot elevated outdoor turf area and two-lane lap pool for player rehabilitation are among the various outdoor amenities set for construction.

With the field area designed to accommodate bleacher seating, 348 on-site parking spaces and accommodations available for offsite parking, the Chargers will be able to host public training camp at the El Segundo complex once open.

The project is currently estimated for completion by Spring 2024.

In regards to the program that was planned for the day, Matt ‘Money’ Smith, iHeart & NFL Network personality / English-language radio “play-by-play” voice for the Chargers served as the event’s MC.  Speakers that were scheduled to address those in attendance were the following:

  • Chris Pimentel, City of El Segundo Mayor Pro Tem
  • Richard Lundquist, President of Continental Development Corporation
  • Dean Spanos, Los Angeles Chargers Owner & Chairman of the Board
  • Brandon Staley, Head Coach
  • Justin Herbert, Quarterback
  • Derwin James, Safety
