[1st Qtr]: The obvious and big question before the game was whether or not QB/Justin Herbert would start. The answer…yes, he did. From their opening drive, he was not efficient or accurate with his passes. His timing was visibly off. Each team had three possessions and the Jaguars ended the period on a 10-play drive and ended up at the Chargers 3 yard line as time expired.
[2nd Qtr]: The Jags put up the first points of the game on a 22 yd field goal by #10/PK/Riley Patterson. Then on the Chargers first play from scrimmage to start the period, Herbert’s short pass to Sony Michel was intercepted at the 15 yard line by #33/LB/Devin Lloyd and returned to the Chargers 5. The goal line defense stiffened and the Jags were forced to settle for field goal, moving the score to (6-0). After a “sack-fumble” turnover on 3rd and 10 at the Chargers 28 yard line, it was QB/Trevor Lawrence time again, and on this drive he hit his wider receiver, Zay Jones with a 14 yd. TD pass coming with (10:23) left in the period. The PAT was good and drove the score up to (13-0), Jaguars.

The Chargers got on the scoreboard with (6:10) left on an 11 yd. TD coming by way of a pass to #81/Mike Williams who ran a “down & out” at the left side of the end zone. The drive took 9 plays, went 75 yards, and the PAT was good for a (13-7) score.
On the Jags next drive, they traveled 75 yards and threw a TD pass but it came under review. The dispute centered on whether or not the receiver had both feet inside or only one. Upon further review, it was overturned and Jacksonville had to settle for another field goal with (1:02) making it (16-7). On the Chargers final possession of the half, Herbert was good on positive short flare passes out to his running back, #30/Austin Ekeler. However, time ran out to end the period.
[HALFTIME]: Jacksonville 16 Chargers 7
[3rd Qtr]: Chargers took the kick-off. And quickly, Herbert appeared to be recovered form his first half performance as he went deep with a huge 54 yd completion to #15/Jalen Guyton. But the drive stalled at the 7 yard line and Bolts Head Coach Brandon Staley summoned out his field goal team for a 25 yarder by #6/PK/Dustin Hopkins. It was good for a (16-10) margin.
The next two scores in the game were by the Jags and stretched the lead to (31-10) with only (1:15) left. First Lawrence found #7/WR/Zay Jones and then on a #1/RB/Travis Etienne, Jr. short running play, they added another 6 points. After the kick-off, the Chargers perfectly executed another big play on a 45 yd. pass to #5/WR/Joshua Palmer down to the 27 yard line, but once again the team could not move into a serious scoring threat. This play ended the period.

[4th Qtr]: The Bolts drive stalled due to penalties and instead of kicking a field goal, they took their chances on a 4th & 15 due to a holding call and were stopped. From that point on, the Jags basically just chewed up the clock and with (4:59) remaining, QB/Lawrence added another passing TD to his totals when he found #11/WR/Marvin Jones, Jr. from 11 yards out, boosting the score to (38-10).
[FINAL SCORE]: Jacksonville Jaguars 38 Chargers 10
[ATTENDANCE]: 67,431
[OF SIGNIFICANCE]: The Chargers rushing game was non-existent as they only netted 26 yards in the game. Penalties against the Bolts were also very costly. On the positive side of the game’s moments was the defensive play of D-lineman #69/Sebastian Joseph-Day & #49/LB/Drue Tranquill. The Chargers defense just did not make adequate adjustments and will have to find a way to complement Safety/#3/Derwin James, Jr. and his stellar, all-around defensive play. Keep in mind that LB/#97/Joey Bosa sustained a severe groin injury early in the game and never returned. No way to explain how huge his loss will hurt the team’s future performances.
[NEXT UP]: The Bolts, now with a (1-2) record travels to Houston to take on the Texans, (0-2-1) record, on Sunday, October 2nd at 10:00 AM |PST. It can be viewed on CBS, Ch. 2 locally. To listen, tune in to ALT 98.7 FM & QUE BUENA 105.5/94.3.
