(East Los Angeles, CA) [From The Editor’s Desk]: The Los Angeles Chargers have once again shown their strong commitment to a very special and distinct cause and, on this occasion, focused their kind and abundant assistance on the adoption of pets who are housed in the City of Los Angeles Shelters.
In this story, the Team’s assistance, along with other notable civic and corporate entities, contributed to a successful promotion of this extremely important event that took place at the South L.A. Shelter. It went on to capture the public’s attention in a “call-for” and a “call-to-action.” Through the combined group efforts on that day, those members of the public who came out to the Shelter found out that it was not as difficult as previously thought to adopt a pet.
Please give a very good read to this story and learn more about pet adoptions in our city and the civic and corporate groups who are contributing some of their dedicated resources to conduct critical outreach to the public on behalf of these pets without a place to call home.

The Los Angeles Chargers, in conjunction with L.A. Animal Services, Dogs Playing for Life, Michelson Found Animals Foundation, and Petco Love, hosted the second annual pet adoption event on December 7th at the South LA Animal Shelter. Attendees were given the opportunity to connect with incredible, social dogs who are eagerly waiting for their forever homes while learning more about pet adoption and fostering.

The event came at a crucial time as city shelters are facing serious overcrowding, especially going into the holiday season. With over 400 pets – including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and gerbils – available for adoption. Adoption fees at all L.A. Animal Services Shelters were waived on December 7 & 8, thanks to a generous grant from Petco Love, to make it easier for these deserving fur-ever friends to find a home.
In addition to the adorable available pets, the Creamy Boys ice cream truck, Pepsi, and Healthy Spot were on hand to support the event. The Michelson Found Animals Foundation gave away free pet food to those in attendance through their Better Neighbor Project.

Those individuals who adopted pets were sent home with a pet kit for their new fur-baby packed with Chargers branded bandanas, leashes, and bowls, as well as treats, Kongs, and dog toys provided by Zippy Paws.
L.A. Animal Services is one of the largest municipal shelter systems in the United States. With six shelters across the City of Los Angeles, L.A. Animal Services serves approximately 60,000 animals annually and responds to 20,000 emergency calls involving animals or people in danger.
Since its inception in 1999, Petco Love – Petco’s foundation that is dedicated to harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier – has assisted in finding 6.9M pets forever homes and donated over $400M to maintain its mission.

The Chargers are dedicated to supporting animal welfare causes and initiatives, strategically partnering with local shelters, rescues, and nonprofits to raise awareness and effect change. As a result of these collaborations, nearly 500 dogs have found loving homes or foster families in recent years. In 2022, the team launched the MVP (Most Valuable Pup) program, featuring shelter or rescue dogs available for adoption at all home games.
Additionally, in 2023, the Chargers Impact Fund committed over $113,000 to renovate LA Animal Services’ East Valley Animal Shelter’s turf play yards and provide new building signage.
