On Tuesday morning, Dec. 13th, Chargers Outside Line-Backer/Khalil Mack, Defensive Lineman/Morgan Fox, Wide Receiver/DeAndre Carter, Kicker/Cameron Dicker, Outside Linebacker, Derrek Tuszka and several other teammates surprised second and third-grade students at Mayo Elementary School in Compton with the donation of new bicycles in advance of the holiday season.
While the students thought that only the winners of a scheduled essay competition would receive a new bike, in reality every student received a bike, helmet and bike lock purchased by the Chargers and Pechanga Resort Casino. Bill Pollakov, co-founder of the Bikes for Kids Foundation, led the school assembly and ultimately announced the “surprise” after the winning essays had been read, at which time the players all helped to present the surprised students with their brand new bikes.
The Chargers Impact Fund, in partnership with the “Bikes for Kids Foundation,” donated over 150 brand-new bicycles, helmets and bike locks for the students. This year’s event marked the 18th-consecutive year that the Chargers and Bikes for Kids have partnered to distribute brand new bicycles to children of underserved communities.
Since 2003, the Chargers have donated over 3,000 brand-new bicycles to Southern California youth.
