Background: In one of the most highly anticipated “Game Days” of the 2014 season, the “Renewed Rivalry,” between the Cathedral“Phantoms”and the Salesian“Mustangs,” was played onOctober 11, 2014. The final score is now part of the record books. And, on that special day, East L.A. Sports Scene was there to capture what will hopefully be viewed and appreciated as the community event that brings back many memories for the huge alumni groups for both schools. In the renewal process, both school administrations agreed to play it at Los Angeles Southwest College, a definite neutral site with a capacity to hold the thousands that would come to support their team. Now that this passionate rivalry has returned with all of its fanfare, it is expected to attract high school football fans from Boyle Heights, East L.A. and Beyond for years to come! In the end, we congratulate both schools for agreeing to return this special game to the community. For the record, it will show that on a great Fall October Day in Los Angeles, Cathedral played Salesian once again, and due to the preparations for a fan-friendly game environment, it easily attracted a near sell-out of 10,000 faithfuls. Come along and watch as East L.A. Sports Scene brings you our“Play-By-Play” coverage of this important game. Now that both schools are members of the same CIF/Southern Section’s, Division Southeast (V), Angelus League, each will seek to advance to the playoffs as the regular season comes to an end in November.
