Regarding the Bulldogs performance against one of the most powerful programs ever witnessed in the CIF-L.A. City Section, and in a tribute to Narbonne’s speed, size, and athleticism, all important and critical trademarks of the Gauchos varsity program, Head Coach Lorenzo Hernandez had this to say about the Final.
“I think competing in the championship game vs. Narbonne was an amazing accomplishment. Although we did not perform as expected it is very difficult to play against a team that has some of the best talent from around the area. I think it was like playing a private school in a public school setting. You can’t take anything away from Narbonne. They have built something special there and I hope this is a major step for us in trying to mirror what they have accomplished.”
Regarding the upcoming game against the Robert F. Kennedy Thunderbirds, he had these remarks.
“Kennedy is a program with a great track record of multiple section titles and we are honored to host such a program that has had so much success. I have no doubt that our kids are excited about the opportunity to continue on such a historic season. We have so many guys that care about each other, Garfield and East L.A., that they will leave it on the field Saturday night! We can’t wait for Saturday, it’s going to be an electric atmosphere.”
Injury Report: Unfortunately, SR/CB/#4 Andrew Hernandez suffered a season-ending right arm injury in the loss to Narbonne. He was a major contributor and weekly “key” starter for Coach Hernandez. He will need 4-5 weeks of rehabilitation before resuming his play for the Garfield basketball team.
