Game #2 Summary: The Bruins (50-10) literally stepped up to the plate in a big way and once more “let their bats speak for themselves” as the old saying goes. Again, Head Coach Inouye-Perez had no doubt about who she would give the ball to and ask to enter the tradtional Circle of Fire. It was Ally Carda, the senior veteran who has earned herself a bundle of accolades for her play this season, but when you ask her about those, she very kindly defers that talk for another day. Her mind was on winning the biggest prize of her UCLA Bruin career, her team, and nothing more. The first inning saw the Tigers grab a 1-0 lead. In their half of the 2nd inning, the Bruin bats began to emerge with potent consistency and very quickly put up four runs to take a 4-1 lead after two complete innings. They added another two in the third stanza and three more in the fourth. At the end of four, it was all Bruins, with the score reading, 9-1 in their favor. Missouri’s best bats were silenced during the Bruin three inning offensive assault, but the Tigers managed to put up some scores, with one in the 5th, three in the 6th, and their final run in the 7th. Selina Ta’amilo/FR/Vista Murrietta HS was brought on in the 7th, replacing Cada after she faced one batter, to close out the game and preserve the win for the Bruin ace, boosting her season record to an amazing 31-6. Ta’amilo was quite impressive as she fanned two of the three batters she faced. The Bruins season’s long mantra of…our offense wins games, our defense limits runs, and our great pitching is hard to hit, rang true and gave them some well-deserved momentum on their way to the Women’s College World Series. Believe in the mantra and you have the Bruin formula for success. At the end of this Super Regional, the Bruins, their highly supportive fans, and alumni were all greatly pleased with their 50th win of the season. As Coach Inouye-Perez likes to describe her team’s mindset, it’s a “9 on 1” game and “We always come to Fight.”
With their elimination of the Tigers, the Bruins assertively punched their tickets to Oklahoma City and the NCAA Women’s College World Series (WCWS) starting Thursday, May 28th. Let’s trust that they keep perfecting their winning formula during the Series and come back home with yet another NCAA National Softball Championship Trophy.
